The Fire Horse Ignites the World, my submission to Riso Pop‘s exhibition was on view for several weeks at their Amsterdam gallery, closing on March 16th. The theme was, of course, the Fire Horse.
I am not very well versed in Chinese astrology, but I drew inspiration from the cleansing and transformational power of fire. In my mind, it became a neat little constellation with the Demian quote “Who would be born must destroy a world”, which also echoes the concept of creation after destruction.
Motion, color and atmosphere were a lot more important than figures, so the fire horse is the only shape with any linework.I also couldn’t stop thinking of Rapidash and actively tried to avoid any Pokemon comparisons...
The illustration was printed by Aafke at Riso Pop and copies will be available to buy around June!

The Planner for Busy Geckos is a Month + Week planner designed to tear away the weeks as they pass while keeping the important monthly dates on view. As a busy gecko myself, who juggles personal appointments, freelance projects and a riso studio, I needed an uncluttered and smart planner, so I designed it myself.
Wheel of Suffering is a five color riso print based on my thesis project, Dripping Sun, showing the protagonist Eva’s cycle of unfortunate events she’s trapped in as a working gecko in a hostile city -- relatable!
Followers of Civilization is a zine about some of my favorite gecko facts that I collected over the year I spent working on my thesis project. Guaranteed to make you more fun at parties!
