Multi-hyphenate/shapeshifting creature: I am an illustrator, storyteller, riso printer and translator (Japanese, English > Spanish).
My work is always story based, and characterized by bright colors, playful animal characters and atmospheric illustrations, which serve as a reminder of the wonders of the world. I publish most of my work through my small riso press, Tori Press, currently based in the city of Monterrey, Mexico.
I like to tell stories from the perspective of protagonists living in a world they don’t fully comprehend, and might never will.
My visual inspiration comes from children’s book illustration, medieval art from throughout the world, and Japanese art in particular. Thematically, my work is informed by mythology, folklore, history and literature, as well as my personal experiences.
I am currently studying at the MFA Visual Narrative program at School of Visual Arts, in New York.
